The Nerves Before You Even Start

Today I had my first basketball game in a long time.

And I’m not going to lie, I felt a lil nervous before I even got there.

I was thinking about how I’d perform.

It’s weird because nothing had even happened yet.

But my mind was already running scenarios.

That’s what happens when you’ve been away from something.

You don’t just lose your rhythm.

You lose certainty.

And without certainty, your brain tries to protect you.

Once you actually start…

Everything settles.

Muscle memory starts kicking in.

Confidence builds again.

And you realise it was never that deep.

You were just overthinking it.

Most people never get past that moment.

They feel the nerves and decide not to go.

They avoid the situation completely.

And then they wonder why they never get back to the things they used to enjoy.

Or

Why they never improve.

Whether it’s basketball, business, gym, whatever.

You’re always going to feel it when there’s a gap.

The difference is what you do next.

Do you listen to it and stay where you are?

Or

Do you show up anyway?

Because once you show up…

The nerves fade.

And the only thing that matters is what you do on the court.

Not what you imagined before you got there.
