Sometimes It’s Just You
Sometimes the only person that can save you is you.
It took me a while to accept that.
My whole life I’ve been the one giving.
Showing up for people.
Helping them.
Putting them before myself.
Doing whatever I can to make sure they’re good.
And if I’m honest…
Most of the time, all I got back was nothing.
Empty words.
Empty promises.
“I’ve got you” with no action behind it.
Then I hit a low point.
And the person closest to me at the time just… watched.
That’s something I can’t ignore.
There are things you can forgive in life.
But begging someone to help you, over and over again, and they do nothing?
That stays with you.
Because it makes you realise something.
No one is coming to save you.
Not because people are evil.
But because people are inconsistent.
People say things they don’t follow through on.
People prioritise themselves.
And when you finally accept that…
You stop waiting.
You stop hoping someone will step in.
You stop putting your life in someone else’s hands.
And you start moving for yourself.
That doesn’t mean I think everyone is like that.
I don’t.
Because I know how I am.
And if I exist like this, there have to be others who do too.
People who genuinely care.
People who actually show up.
People who want to see you become better.
I just haven’t met all of them yet.
And that’s fine.
Because now I understand the balance.
You build yourself first.
You become strong enough to carry your own weight.
And if you find someone who truly adds to that…
That’s when life feels different.
That’s when it feels right.
I hope one day we can all find that.
But until then…
Make sure you can save yourself.
